Reading Session - 22.1.20

Thank you to all of the parents who attended our Reading Session this week. It was great to see so many of you there! To respond to some of your questions regarding phonics, we are hoping to offer a follow up session which will enable you to see your child in a phonics session. Keep your eyes peeled for more details next half term!

is something we love to do and we really hope you can share this experience with your child. Once you have read with your child, please write a note in their reading diary.

Your child has opportunities in the school day to access reading.

  • 'Reading for Pleasure' every morning after name writing. This time is a chance to enjoy the illustrations of books, share a book with a friend and discuss familiar stories.
  • One to one reading with the class teacher once a week.
  • Book of the Week. A daily read or activity based around our focus book.
  • Story time. We love sitting down as a class and enjoying a story. Reading helps us to develop our vocabulary, comprehension and knowledge of the world.

However, we cannot stress enough the impact regular reading at home has on the progress your child makes across all areas of the curriculum. Five minutes every day makes such a phenomenal difference.

Reading Books

We are very excited to start reading with your child in Week 2. We will be sending reading books and diaries home for you to share with your child. Please try to read with your child for five minutes, four times a week.

Pink Band

The first books your child will read are pink. Here are some helpful tips for reading these books with your child. A copy of this can also be found in your child's reading diary.

13/9/19

Dear parents,

All children who have a book bag have been issued with their first ever school book this week! If your child has not yet got a book bag, they are available to purchase from the school office. We will then ensure they have a book as soon as possible.

Your child will also be coming home with their first set of 'Bear Words' today. There is a letter with this which shares some ideas of how you can support your child in learning the sounds this week. Mrs Kane and Miss Casson will be testing whether each child can read their Bear Words every Friday.

Thank you for your support,

The Foundation Team

BEAR WORDS

A huge well done to all the children who have made a super start to their Bear Words! My Gray was very impressed with the amazing effort you have made to learn the first sounds.

Keep it up - certificates for Bear Words will be given out each Friday!
