Over this half term the children will be focusing on the genre of mythical texts. Children will be exploring what makes this text so important and engaging. Children will be writing a description of Grendel meeting Beowulf. Children will be using a range of grammatical and literary features to do this. Our grammatical features will include: comparative adverbials, linking adverbs, double see-saw and -ing clauses.

Reading

In our reading lessons in summer 2 we will be reading Beowulf by Rob Llyod Jones. Every lesson will consist of an opportunity for the children to read and develop their prosody and comprehension skills. The children will take part in a number of activities to improve their prosody including echo and choral reading, repeated re-reading and performances. The comprehension skills we will be focusing on include visualisation, prediction, inference, summarising and making connections to prior reading and cross curricular knowledge.
