Writing

This half term our writing will be based on:

T: Recount: Newspaper article

A: Other KS2 children

P: To inform

Publish: To create a class collection of newspaper articles

Over this half term the children will be focusing on the genre of non-fiction, formal texts. Children will be exploring what makes this text so important and engaging. Children will be writing to inform about a tragic event involving the Iron Man. Children will be using a range of grammatical and literary features to do this. Our grammatical features will include: adjectives, reported and direct speech, formal language, rhetorical questions and how 2 adverbials. While for our main literary feature we will be looking at alliteration in newspaper headlines.

Reading

In our reading lessons in summer 1 we will be reading The Iron Man by Ted Hughes. Every lesson will consist of an opportunity for the children to read and develop their prosody and comprehension skills. The children will take part in a number of activities to improve their prosody including echo and choral reading, repeated re-reading and performances. The comprehension skills we will be focusing on include visualisation, prediction, inference, summarising and making connections to prior reading and cross curricular knowledge.
