World Book Day 2024 -

George's Marvellous Medicine

As part of our world book day learning, we explored Roald Dahl's George's Marvellous Medicine. We had a go at creating our own potions, we used our science knowledge to observe reactions, speed and variables. We planned and lead three experiments: Skittles Rainbow, Mentos and Coke and Bicarb and Vinegar!

Fractions - A Yummy Treat!

We have started to explore Fractions, to help us understand the halves and quarters we cut up Jaffa Cakes. This allowed our brains to make links between 2 quarters and 1 half.

At the end we got to eat the yummy fractions!

History - Mother Seacole

In History this week we have been learning about Mary Seacole. We used our research skills to find out all the key information about her life. We used a learning techniques called 'Visualisation' and 'Mind Mapping' to share our knowledge. Here are some examples of our History work:

Democracy - Rule by the people!

In PSHE, we have been learning about Democracy and how people rule. We learned about 3 types of voting: hands up, ballot vote and division of the assembly.

Miss Byrne and Mrs. J turned the spare classroom into a 'Polling Station', we had to follow the same rules adults do. We voted for or against school uniform.

Then, we voted for a Class MP, we all had a vote for the person who we think will lead our class best!

Features of story writing

This week we have been exploring lots of different story books. We have been identifying the setting, characters, the key theme and exciting vocabulary! We are going to use this knowledge to make our own stories as exciting as possible!

Design & Technology - Sewing

We have been learning how to sew, so far we have learned how to sew a running stitch. This was a challenge for us but we showed fantastic determination.

Our Trip to The University of Nottingham

We have been lucky enough to be invited to the University of Nottingham. We got the chance to explore different historical artefacts and used our knowledge of History to draw our own comparisons. Our favourite toy was the wooden toys.

Did you know?

That some toys used to be made out of deer antlers? (Shared by S.S)
