Reading

Reading at Home

To best support your children with their reading, please try to explore a story at least three times a week for about 5-10 minutes. Remember to listen to them read, but also give them the opportunity to listen to you read. If you need any help with this, speak to your class teacher.

Based upon our KS1 reading scheme of Little Wandle, Children will read their book for at least three sessions at school so they become fluent.

After these sessions, the children will take this book home until the following week. During home reading with their parents/carers, the children will have the opportunity to consolidate the specific sounds, vocabulary and themes in the book to gain a deeper understanding of what they are reading.

We appreciate all the hard work that you do at home to support your child's reading and the Year 1/2 team are always here if you have any questions regarding reading.

Reading regularly will also:

  • Build confidence
  • Build a wider range of vocabulary
  • Help with spelling
  • Build a rich imagination
  • Support your child in every subject
