Phonics
Phonics challenge of the week
You need a timer for this activity. Click on this one and set it to 2 minutes.
Your phonics teacher would like you to write as many words as you can with the sound they have chosen. You have 2 minutes. How many words can you think of? After the 2 minutes are up, choose your favourite word and use it in a sentence. You can find a sheet to print for this activity in the "related downloads" section on the right.
Support with phonics at home
We are lucky to have so many amazing parents who support their child's reading at home. Phonics is an important strategy to use when learning to read. If it is something new to you then don't panic - take a look at Mr. T's phonics on Youtube for some helpful information.
There is also lots of information below too!
What is phonics?
Phonics in Year 1
The children will have regular phonics lessons every morning and will be taught in small groups.
If you require any help with supporting your child with phonics or the pronunciation of any of the sounds, please speak with either of the Year 1 class teachers and they will be happy to help.
