We follow the NCETM Mastering Number approach in Reception. This helps us to build secure firm foundations in the development of good number sense for all children, developing children's fluency and flexibility with number. Attention will be given to key knowledge and understanding needed in Reception classes, and progression through KS1 to support success in the future.

As well as this, we also teach the children about Shape, Space and Measure, building up their understanding of concepts such as pattern, properties of shapes and measurement.

Summer 1

This half term the children will continue to develop their counting skills by counting larger sets of items, as well as counting things that cannot be seen like sounds and actions. They will also be looking at subitising (knowing how many there are just by looking at them!) to 6 and at the compositon of numbers to 10. Our shape, space, and measure learning will focus on 3D shapes, length and height, days of the week, and position and direction.

Click below for some songs, videos and games that will help your child practice these skills.
