CHRISTMAS IS COMING

CHRISTMAS IS COMING…

Christmas is the Christian celebration of the birth of Jesus, and here in the UK it also a cultural festival where everyone can celebrate their friends and families through meeting, eating and giving gifts together. Here at Victoria Primary, our Christmas celebrations are for everyone – for families of any religion or none! Here’s an overview of some things planned to bring all of our children together in December:

FRIDAY 1ST DECEMBER: OUR CHRISTMAS TREE ARRIVES!

The idea of decorating a Christmas Tree actually comes from Germany, and it was Queen Victoria (who our school is named after!) who made Christmas Trees popular back in the 1840s. Children in every class will be putting their art skills to use to decorate our school tree which will be delivered at the end of this week.

MONDAY 4TH DECEMBER: CHRISTMAS DINNER

It’s the school kitchen event of the year, cooking a full Christmas Dinner for almost every child in school! On Monday 4th, children who order school dinner will eat together with a view of our Christmas Tree and a backdrop of Christmas music too. There’ll be squash to drink and crackers to pull – all whilst being served by their teachers and TAs… What a treat!

MONDAY 11TH / TUESDAY 12TH DECEMBER: Y2 / Y3 PANTOMIME TRIP

Pantomime is a traditional type of theatre that is very popular at Christmas time. With lots of songs and jokes, the audience must join in as much as possible! Year 2 are going along to the Playhouse Theatre on Monday 11th and Year 3 on Tuesday 12th. Reception Classes Boot and Bell will be going for a quieter show at the Library whilst Year 1 will be enjoying the very snowy “Polar Express” at the cinema too.

FRIDAY 15TH DECEMBER: CHRISTINGLE AND CHRISTMAS DRESS UP DAY

Another German tradition, a Christingle is an orange (representing the world) with items stuck in to represent different Christian traditions. Made by children, they are taken to church to celebrate light in the world at Christmastime. This year, we will be taking our Christingles to St George’s Church on the afternoon of December 15th – and families are welcome too! This year, the date is also Christmas Jumper Day – a day for dressing up in a Christmassy way! We dress up because it’s fun but across the UK people wear Christmas Jumpers on December 15th to raise money for Save the Children charity. You don’t have to send money, but if you’d like to we’ll donate it for you
