In Bronte class, we are; Miss Nock (class teacher) and Miss Hedges and Miss Whistler (Teaching Assistants).

Our topic this term is called:

Journeys past and present

This half term our topic is ‘Journeys past and present’ We will be learning all about the Romans; The Roman Empire and its impact on Britain (including the invasion, Hadrian’s Wall, Boudica’s resistance and the ‘Romanisation of Britain.)

In art, we will be looking into the famous designer Paul Smith. We will be having a visit from someone who was a buyer for Paul Smith- they will teach us about life in the rag trade.

Things to know:

PE is on Thursday. This half term it is our turn to have our sports coach Gemma where the children will be learning to play Tag Rugby. Please ensure PE kits are in school. They can stay on pegs during the week and then taken home to be washed over weekends.

Swimming is now only for the children who recieved a letter. It will continue to be on a Friday at Portland (not Lenton). Parents are able to either pick their child up from Portland at 3.05 or from school at 3.30. Please return slip to let us know which. Children who do not go swimming will do PE and top up sessions.

Forest School will be on a Thursday with Mrs Walker. Children are encouraged to bring in wellies.

Superstar readers

In year 4, we expect the children to read every day. It’s vital that the children read regularly so that they can access all areas of their learning and make fantastic progress. Every week we count up how many times the children have read. It is then a competition between KS2 classes to see who as a class has read the most. The class that wins gets awarded the reading trophy in Mr Gray's achievement assembly.

Times tables

Children must keep practising their times tables up to 12 at home so they can complete their challenges in school. Your child should know and be able to use the commutative method. E.g. 2x4=8 in the 4x table and 4x2=8 in the 4x table.
