Welcome to Year 2 - Wordsworth Class!

Hello! My name is Miss Mullins and I am the Class Teacher in Wordsworth. I also work alongside Mrs O'Connor our wonderful teaching assistant.

We are reading:

English

​​In English, the children will become immersed in the story ‘Jim and the Beanstalk’ through drama and role-play. They will learn about responsibility and friendship whilst using descriptive language to design a missing poster for Jim. The children will plan, write, edit and publish their own narrative to predict what might have happened to the characters in the story and what adventure they may have been on.

Maths

Multiplication:

We have been looking at multiplications and using arrays to help us when we multiply. Below you can see an example of how the children have been doing it in class.

Practice drawing arrays with the questions below.

PE

We have PE every Wednesday and Friday.

This term the pupils will be developing their skills in gymnastics.

Things you can do at home

Reading is a priority in year 2 and if you could read as often as possible with your child this will really help them move on.

Reader of the week:

Each child will receive a raffle ticket every time they read at home and will have the opportunity to win a book at the end of the week. Little and often is the key.

Last term

Homework

Your child should be coming home with their reading book every night could you please read with them. Also could you please practice counting in twos, fives and tens with you child.

Spring 2 - Dragons and Dungeons

This half term our topic is Dragon and Dungeons.

Spring 1 - Brazil

This term we will be learning all about Brazil and the amazing Amazon Rainforest.

Autumn 2 - The Great Fire of London

Last half term the children really enjoyed learning about The Great Fire of London. They produced some amazing diaries about what it was like to witness the event and really thought about their different senses when writing their diary. ​

Homework

  • Reading at least 3 times a week recording in the correct place in the diaries
  • Revise 2, 5, 10 and 3 times tables
